Whickham U9's Play in the 'Apollo Doors' Gateshead Youth League.
All the matches are played on Saturday mornings at Redheugh. The team started the season brightly with a 3-0 victory, the goals coming from James S, Ewan W and Aidan W. They then suffered a run of five defeats, but bounced back to earn a 0-0 draw with Gateshead. This left them 21st out of 25 teams in the league, but hopefully they can use this result against the 11th placed team as a springboard to climbing the table. The squad, is: James A, Ryan D, Grant J, Rhys J, Jack M, Sean M, James S, Aidan W and Ewan W.
Last year, the team took a little while to adjust to the standard of the league, especially as they were playing teams who had been in the league the previous year. Results improved towards the end of the season, however, and they ended up with two wins and a draw from their games. At the end of season presentation at The Glebe, Sean M. won the Player of the Year and Aidan W. received the trophy for leading goalscorer.
